In the upcoming days, I'll try to add some pics from my camera that I haven't loaded
Well with mr. McCallum now taking over tour guide duties, there was bound to be more walking and that's just what happened. After a beautiful night with a great skyline walk and a tour of some of hong kings highlights, the next day was followed up with a tour of a canadian international school, a visit to stanley and the peak, a visit to the only gurdwara and of course a little shopping. Students are now getting final gifts from the night market before our last day tomorrow. We have arrived in HK! Will update later with photos. We took in the 'other view' of the Vietnam war during this visit. It was really interesting to see how many read word for word all the information on the different levels.. We ended up giving them a lot more time then what we originally allotted. Their social studies teachers would be proud! The last couple days, the students continued to receive lessons of learning. They helped out with the dishes at meals with the ladies in the back. Some students got up early from our homestay and secretly gave out Beanie babies to all the residents front yards. Gone are the days of just 'handing out' gifts as it can breed begging from people. These were just two of the many small acts of kindness that the students have been partaking in on this trip. The last two days we visited the Mekong delta and stayed overnight in a homestay. Although we had more creature comforts like hot water, we still had a resident bat that stayed where the students slept. We learntuch about the region and how they are more wealthy than other areas for their ability to produce an abundance of fruit. We visited a local market where students got to try durian ( the smelly fruit) and other local delicacies. It was interesting to see much of the food that we eat everyday growing all around our homestay. We also took a nice bike ride through the surrounding villages. Students had a great day visiting the tunnels close to the city. These were used during the Vietnam war by the Viet Cong to live and surprise attack the Americans and the south. Talk about an excellent history field trip! Safe and sound in Ho Chi Minh. We are currently at the hotel just getting ready to go visit the Cu Chi Tunnels that were used during the Vietnam war. We are currently at the airport ready to board our internal flight. The students had to be packed and ready at 5:30 this morning. Amazingly, no one was late! Last night we booked a karaoke room and sang like the locals except with bieber, Beatles and buble. Everyone ended up singing at least one song but all would admit that they need singing lessons upon their return to Canada. A fun night had by all! For once on the trip, the students had a full day of relaxation. This included some time on their own to explore the streets of Hoi An after a walking tour of the main highlights. Students practiced their bargaining skills and many 'think' they got a good deal ;). We are off for dinner and then a fun night of karaoke has been organized. The boys have promised to sing 'I am beautiful' by Christina Aguilera. |
